SECPhO attended the Second CLPU Members Meeting in Salamanca. This time the meeting was focused on the Spanish industry, interested in innovating through laser technology. Sergio Sáez, the SECPhO Cluster Manager, gave a presentation in which he explained how SECPhO contributes to the internationalization and innovation of the Spanish photonics sector.
On the 3rd day, in the afternoon, attendees of the meeting could visit each of the laboratories of CLPU and were introduced about the usage and applications of different lasers that are in the center. Without a doubt, it is a reference infrastructure worldwide in this field.
A petawatt laser, one of the world’s most powerful lasers, that is currently in the M5 building in the Scientific Park of the University of Salamanca, will be brought to the new facilities in few months. In the meantime, four laboratories are already operating at the new M3 building, where industrial projects are being developed.
This meeting served CLPU to expose to industry the potential of new facilities and for the industry to explain their needs, so that there is a consolidated community of users and contributors. Specifically, the center is already working with a laser manufacturing company, medical laser applications company and Iberdrola. This meeting is part of the actions the CLPU is doing to promote the Spanish participation in the European project ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) with the support from the three consortium partners: the councils of Castile and Leon, the Economy and Competitiveness Ministry of Spain and the University of Salamanca.
SECPhO encourages all the photonics community in Spain to get to know the CLPU, whose premises will be a reference in the world in the very near future.
