On 28 and 29 April 2021, we have celebrated the AI for Industry International Congress, as first event taking place in secpholand, a brandnew virtual platform developed by secpho.
During this 2 day congress, the participants had the opportunity to follow expert presentations, learn about new products and increase their network in the Artificial Intelligence sector. Take a look at the video summary of the event:
Here you can find a summary of the topics that were discussed during the Congress:
Natalia Mira & Daniel Martínez | Grupo Álava
“The dealing of automation scenarios”
During her presentation, Natalia Mira explained how can Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are techinques that allow to create intelligent systems from data to automative processes and devices. And later, Daniel Martínez focused on Deep Learning application in Computer Vision and explained how DL could solve computer vision problems like classification, segmentation, regression and generation. You can check their presentation here.
Josu Bilbao | Ikerlan
“Artificial Intelligence as a key for the digital transformation in the Industry”
Josu focused on Intelligent Digital Platforms that are powered by AI for Industry and explained the crucial role that AI performed in the edge-to-cloud continuum specially in cloud training and Edge inference. And later he explained how multiple devices with AI capabilites could enable distributed training.
Jone Echazarra Huguet | Tecnalia
“Finding a starting point for adopting AI in industry”
Jone shared some starting tips to create a roadmap for adopting AI in industry, like use case definition, data exploration, model design & development and deployment & monitoring. And she also shared some success stories like a project designed to reduce the energy consumption by means of bubble detection and counting in the glass container production for Vidrala and another project to improve the steel quality by optimising the melting and casting process by scrap type characterisation in the yard for ArcelorMittal. Check her presentation here.
Caroline Vandenplas | B12 Consulting
“Innovative IT for complex business problems”
Caroline explained how B12 tries to solve the most complex business problem with state of the art IT and AI solutions. She explained several use cases like a project for detecting whether a car windshield needs to be repaired, after it has been hit, in real time and without human intervention. A second use case was to develop a monitoring application for a manufacturer of industrial photovoltaic plants. You can check here her presentation.
Daniel Kumpel | IOVI
“Intelligent Artificial Vision: The Eye of Industry 4.0”
Daniel Explained that the future is already now thanks to the combination of Machine vision, IoT, and Big Data. Daniel also presented Inescube, their intelligent artificial eye that is a camera and a software with neural networks that can be trained to think for and about a particular mission. Check here his presentation.
Javier Orús Lacort | PredictLand
“Prediction and classification: two AI succes stories”
In his presentation, Javier has explained the success projects implemented in BSH Home Appliances Group. You can read here all the presentation.
Carlos Gonzalez-Val | AIMEN Centro Tecnológico
“Applied generative design in manufacturing”
Carlos has explained that generative models are a family of algorithms capable of creating new data instances from a given learned distribution and its main applications include: image generation, data augmentation and vido translation (deepfakes). The applications of generative models in manufacturing are:
- Product design: where the solutions are the products, and the validation is performed by consumers
- Material/process design: where the solutions are viable materials or processes parameters that are validated through simulation
Manuel Domínguez Álvarez | ALTER Technology
“AI applied to failure prediction in Space”
Artificial Intelligence can help in failure detection in the space, as Manuel Domínguez Álvarez has explained during his presentation. The Relative Explainability Learning Algorithms, their Radiation Laboratory, and the CRISP-DM methodology are some of the tools that the Alter Technology team uses in their projects. You can read here all the presentation.
Davide Moroni | ISTI-CNR
“Intelligent system and augmented reality for Industry 4.0”
Davide made an overview of extended reality across the smart factories in his presentation. And has described the 6th sense that humans can get: “Intution + Awarenes” wich is the result of the combination of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems. Read here the presentation.
Enric Vázquez-Suñé | IDAEA-CSIC
“Data science tools in geosciences and water resources management”
In his presentation, Enric presented the datascience methods used in geological cross sections, prediction of the behavior of water, calculation of the hydraulic parameters of aquifers, evaluation of hydrochemical indicators, analysis and generation of geospatial models from discrete data and D-INSAR interferometry results postprocessor.
Miguel Ares Rodríguez | CD6-UPC
“3D optical metrology for healthcare application”
Miguel explained that the optical metrology group developes structure-light solutions for contactless 3D scanining since 2007 and their main application fields are Industry 4.0 and Bio/healthcare. And he presentad an AI-based skin cancer diagnosis that uses 3D imaging.
Maite González | Tekniker
“Artificial Intelligence for Smarter Products and Solutions”
Maite presented several success stories of AI applied in Food Production Optimisation in Greenhouses (Greenpatroll project), Poin-Of-Care Systems, Energy Efficiency in Residential Buildings (Respond H2020), On-Site Condition Monitoring (OilWear by Atten2).
Mª José Bengoechea | Nulab
“AI Implementation in he Quality and Food Safety”
Pointed out that even we still have several limitations in the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the Agrofood industry, like small dataset, need for a multidisciplinary & qualified team, framework and tools; #machinelearning & #deeplearning are good for #foodsafety because they increase: dataset size, model size and accuracy. Read here her presentation.
Renato Turchetta | Imasenic
“Custom CMOS image sensors for AI”
Has presented Imasenic a fabless semiconductor company that develop innovative custom CMOS images and sensors.
Santiago Royo | Beamagine
“Advanced 3D+2D perception units for enhanced AI training“
In his talk, Santi explained that the combination of complementary imaging technologies based in different working principles, makes the system reiable in all operational scenarios, regardless of object type, material or weather conditions. False alarms can be eliminated exploiting and combining the information from the 3 sources.
