1- Field Service Responsibilities:

Safety Training & Certifications

• Wooptix equipments are installed in a cleanroom environment, requiring the continuous use of protective and lightweight clothing and Personal Protective Equipments (e.g., bunny suit, hood, booties, safety glasses, gloves, earplugs or earmuffs, and safety boots).
• Field Service Engineers must complete safety training and obtain necessary certifications (with periodic renewals) due to the hazards associated with the cleanroom environment and the nature of their work on Wooptix equipment (e.g., exposure to electrical currents, moving mechanical parts, etc.).
• Cleanrooms are controlled environments with regulated temperature and humidity and can be extremely noisy. During installation, maintenance, and repair, the Field Service Engineer may be required to work in awkward or elevated positions, as well as stoop, bend, or crawl while wearing protective and cleanroom clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This requires excellent physical condition and strict adherence to safety procedures. The Field Service Engineer must have no medical contraindications or restrictions preventing them from working in such conditions.

• Field Service Engineering positions require:

• Specific vision abilities, including close vision, color recognition, peripheral vision, and depth perception, as necessary to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to lift and carry objects up to 12 kg, without medical contraindications or restrictions, while wearing protective and cleanroom clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Ability to properly and skillfully use hand tools or any other required equipment while wearing protective and cleanroom clothing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Experience with EFEMs, robots, load ports, pre-aligners, and wafer handling system setup and teaching is preferred (e.g., RORZE, Brooks, etc.), along with knowledge of pneumatics, electronics, FFUs, and automation.
• In critical and exceptional situations involving a customer equipment, Field Service Engineers may be required to work in shifts or during the weekend at the customer site on a voluntary basis, with a special compensation package.

Project overview:

Experimental and theoretical study of linear and nonlinear light-matter interaction in nano-structured artificial materials (photonic crystals and optical metasurfaces), in a search for new functionalities in Photonics. Some of the physical phenomena involved are the harmonic generation in opaque region of semiconductors, excitation of plasmonic waves in metals and conductive oxides and topological surface waves. The aim is to maximize the potential impact of nonlinear metasurfaces to new
nanophotonic devices, such as multiple frequency generators, tunable emitters extended in the UV and optical sensors, all into the interconnected fields of nanomaterials and nonlinear optics. The selected candidate will work on the design and measurement of novel nanophotonic structures performing a combination of theoretical and experimental tasks: developing numerical simulations, setting new experimental set-ups and experimentally proving the optical properties of the nanostructures. Occasionally he/she could participate in the sample fabrication through short stays in our collaborator’s labs. He/she will participate in our international collaborations having the opportunity to carry out international internships in prestigious research groups in USA, Italy or Australia and will participate in national and international congresses to disseminate his results to the scientific community. Student will be part of our active research group, being in contact with other PhD students working on
different subjects in the fields of nonlinear optics, nonlinear dynamics and lasers, research well recognized at the international level.

• Master / PhD / Postdoctoral in the field of composites or Materials Science and Engineering.

Job specific skills:

• Previous expertise of at least 5 years in R&D in composites manufacturing (research centre, and/or academy field).

• Advanced level of MS Office software and auxiliary management tools.

Key Responsibilities

As a physicist or engineer in this role, you will take on exciting and impactful responsibilities that contribute to the innovation and excellence of our laser systems. You will design and implement the overall control systems for our tunable lasers and optical instruments, including the selection and integration of components such as actuators, sensors, and automation stages to achieve optimal system performance.

Your work will include:

Automation and Control Development

1. Design and implement state-of-the-art automation and control systems for our tunable lasers and optical instruments.
2. Work on optimizing automated system performance by integrating robust control algorithms in Python that manage the behavior of our laser systems and optical instruments.
3. Cross-functional collaboration with other members of the team, including optical and mechanical engineers to translate technical challenges into practical solutions based on a holistic approach to product development.
4. Build user-friendly graphical interfaces (GUIs) to provide seamless interaction with the systems.
5. Implement communication protocols (e.g., I2C, serial, USB) to interface with embedded systems, sensors, and actuators.

Component Selection and Electronics Design

1. Identify and source the best components and modules to meet the demanding requirements of our cutting-edge products.
2. Design or manage the design of custom electronic solutions, including analog and digital circuits, to control lasers and their subsystems.
3. Create and test printed circuit boards (PCBs) to support advanced functionalities, ensuring efficiency and durability.
4. System Integration and Testing
5. Oversee the integration of hardware and software components into a cohesive and reliable system.
6. Conduct rigorous testing and validation to ensure performance meets or exceeds customer expectations.
7. Troubleshoot and refine systems during the development and prototyping phases.

Knowledge/Skills/Requirements

We are looking for a self-motivated professional who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative team environment. You will be responsible for the success of your assigned projects. Key qualifications include:

1.A PhD in Telecommunication Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Physics is preferred; a Master with relevant experience will also be considered.

2.Laser Control and Automation:

• Experience controlling actuators (e.g., servos, piezo-electrics, step motors).
• Designing sub-systems for temperature control of optical components.
• Reading analog sensors (e.g., temperature, humidity, photodiodes, spectral sensors).

3.Programming

• Proficiency in Python, particularly in developing graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
• Experience communicating with embedded computers, sensors, and actuators using I2C and serial protocols.
• Knowledge of USB protocol programming is advantageous.
• Familiarity with LabVIEW is a plus but not mandatory.

4.Electronic Design

• Expertise in designing digital and analog electronics, PCBs, and embedded computing.
• Experience with EDA tools such as KiCAD or similar software is desirable.

5.Other Requirements

• Strong oral and written communication skills in English; knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
• Willingness to travel for installation and service assignments.
