Mission in South Africa
As part of the Food Pack Lab programme, which secpho leads in collaboration with other European clusters, we are organising a mission to South Africa to enhance cross-border and cross-sector collaboration of business networks in the strategic area of the smart food chain.
The mission consists of a visit to the region’s largest agricultural trade fair Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day, held from 16 to 20 May in Bothaville.
With nearly 800 exhibitors and focused on the agricultural sector, Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day is an ideal environment to establish contacts with key industry players and thus expand and consolidate the market in this region. We offer you a guided tour of the fair and different pre-arranged B2B meetings with exhibitors to strengthen collaborations and business development along the value chain.
secpho would like to invite its members to participate in a mission, with travel and accommodation expenses paid. Each SME has a travel grant of 1000€, with limited places available. We believe this is a great opportunity for you, so we encourage you to participate in the mission.
Why South Africa?
South Africa, second largest economy in Africa, with strong financial markets, macro-economic and political stability, as well as significant GDP growth, is considered as an economic gateway to African continent.
Food industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in South Africa (33,4% for 2018- 2022), while digital technologies constitute the second import sector, after energy. Main food value chains in South Africa include Meat/poultry/seafood, Fruit and vegetable, Confectionery, Milk and dairy, Grains and related products. Since the listeria outbreak in 2018, food security became an issue of paramount importance in this country. Therefore, water management and other solutions related to hygiene parts of the food security aspects are also of interest in the South African market.
